Glossary

Sometimes we may use words and terms that make sense to us but not to our readers, this glossary will make sure you never read a word or term here that you don't understand.

HTML

HyperText Markup Language. This is the standard markup language used on the world wide web, it is the basis for most web pages.

XHTML

Extensible HyperText Markup Language. XHTML is the successor to HTML, it combines HTML with XML to form a powerful new markup langauge.

CSS

Cascading Style Sheets. Used in conjunction with XHTML CSS allows style data to be placed in a separate location producing cleaner and more efficient code.

PHP

PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. This is a scripting language that can be embedded into HTML/XHTML. It allows a vast array of more advanced features for a website.

Static website

When we refer to 'static' websites we mean websites that will not change once they have been created. Any changes that need to be made to them have to either be done by a professional or someone will special knowledge.

CMS

Content Managed System. This is a website that has a system running behind it that allows the website owner to change the website as they see fit without any special knowledge. The system provides an online easy to use interface that anyone can use to update or alter their website including changing or adding text or images.
